FIFA President Joseph S. Blatter has sent a letter of condolence to the Scottish FA upon hearing of the passing of Celtic and Scotland legend Joe McBride.

“I would like to say how sad I was to hear of the loss of Joe McBride, a prolific striker and later a great ambassador for football, who was also a popular figure and a real football man,” said Blatter in the letter that was addressed to Mr. Campbell Ogilvie, President of the Scottish Football Association (SFA).

McBride will be remembered for his scoring exploits at Glasgow giants Celtic, where he won two league crowns and two league cups. Later, at Hibernian, he finished top scorer in the two seasons he spent there. He also earned a pair of caps for the Scottish national team and represented Partick and Motherwell.

“On behalf of the members of the international football family who had the pleasure of knowing Joe, I should be extremely grateful if you could extend our deepest condolences to the families, friends and loved ones,” the letter continued.

McBride died of a suspected stroke at the weekend at the age of 74. “We would hope that in some way, our words of support may help bring a little bit of peace and solace in this time of sadness,” Blatter added.
