U.S. WNT VICTORY TOUR HEADS TO DENVER ON SEPT. 19 AS GOLD MEDALISTS FACE AUSTRALIA

CHICAGO (Aug. 15, 2012) – The U.S. Women’s National Team’s 2012 Victory Tour is headed to the Denver area as the gold medal winners host Australia in an international friendly at 8 p.m. MT (10 p.m. ET) on Wednesday, Sept. 19, at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park in Commerce City, Colo. The match will be broadcast live on ESPN2 and ESPN3. Fans can also follow on ussoccer.com‘s MatchTracker and on Twitter @ussoccer_wnt.

The home of Major League Soccer’s Colorado Rapids will be the site of the USA’s third stop on the Victory Tour, celebrating the team’s third straight gold medal and fourth gold medal overall as it defeated Japan 2-1 on Aug. 9 to cap off the 2012 London Olympics in front of more than 80,000 spectators at Wembley Stadium.

The U.S. has faced Australia 21 times and holds an impressive 19-0-2 record in a series that dates back to the USA’s 6-0 win on Dec. 16, 1987, in Taipei, Taiwan. The U.S. and Australia last played on June 15, 2008, in Suwon, South Korea, with the United States winning 2-1 in its opening match of the 2008 Peace Queen Cup, with goals from Natasha Kai and Abby Wambach.

The USA begins its Victory Tour on Sept. 1 against Costa Rica at Sahlen’s Stadium in Rochester, N.Y., Wambach’s hometown. The game kicks off at 2:30 p.m. ET and will be broadcast on NBC (TICKETS). The U.S. then faces Australia at 12:30 p.m. PT on Sept. 16 at The Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif. NBC will broadcast the match (TICKETS).
