CONCACAF announces Communications and Marketing Director appointment

NEW YORK (Monday, October 8, 2012) – The Confederation of North, Central American and Caribbean Association Football (CONCACAF) has announced that Mexican-born Jurgen Mainka has been appointed to the role of Director of Communications and Marketing, effective November 1st.

As former Vice President of Communications and Community Relations for the New York Red Bulls, Mainka brings more than 13 years of professional experience in the football industry. His work developing and implementing pan regional communication and marketing platforms have positively added to the global image of soccer in North America.

“We are confident Mr. Mainka will bring a unique understanding of the national and international football structure and media landscape through strong, established relationships in the field,” said General Secretary Enrique Sanz.

Formerly as Director of Marketing and Communications for the USA Bid Committee, he developed and implemented the United States’ PR campaign to bid for the 2018 and 2022 FIFA™ World Cups.

Before the bid, Mr. Mainka worked with Octagon Worldwide from 2007 to ’09 focusing on sports properties in Latin America and was the Senior Director of Communications and International Business for the Colorado Rapids from 2003 to ’07. He started his football career in 1999 as the Director of Media Relations for the New England Revolution.

Mainka, who is fluent in Spanish, German and English, leaves his role at the New York Red Bulls to oversee communications, media relations, community relations and marketing efforts for CONCACAF.
