ROSTER NOTES
A total of 20 players were called into camp that began Nov. 11 in Frankfurt, Germany. The team trained there twice on Monday before departing Tuesday morning for Krasnodar.
Two players are making their first appearance in a senior team camp: former U.S. Under-23 midfielders Joshua Gatt and Joe Gyau. Gatt’s club Molde just clinched the 2012 Norwegian Tippeligaen title this past weekend – the second straight title for Gatt and Molde.
Also reunited in this camp are Juan Agudelo and Mix Diskerud. The pair combined for the lone goal in the USA’s 1-0 win against South Africa in the 2010 Nelson Mandela Challenge, when Agudelo became the youngest U.S. player in the modern era to score for the senior team.

IN THE RECORD BOOKS
With his goal against Guatemala in the last match of the Semifinal Round, U.S. captain Carlos Bocanegra became the USA’s all-time leading scorer for defenders with 14 career goals, passing the previous record of 13 set by Marcelo Balboa.
Goalkeeper Tim Howard moved into sole possession of third place all-time in U.S. MNT goalkeeper caps with his 83rd appearance during the USA’s 3-1 win against Guatemala on Oct. 16. Kasey Keller (102 caps) and Tony Meola (100) are atop the goalkeeping appearances list.

USA vs. RUSSIA
Host Russia is 2-0-2 all-time against the USA in a series that started with Russia’s 1-0 win on Feb. 13, 1993, in Orlando, Fla.
Former U.S. defender Alexi Lalas is responsible for the only USA goal in the series, scoring off a header with five minutes remaining to salvage a 1-1 draw in 1994 in front of 43,651 spectators at the Kingdome in Seattle. (MNT vs. Russia Highlights – Jan. 29, 1994)

NOMINEES NAMED FOR 2012 MALE ATHLETE OF THE YEAR: Four of the five nominees for the prestigious U.S. Soccer Male Athlete of the Year award are in camp in Russia: Michael Bradley, Herculez Gomez, Tim Howard and Fabian Johnson. Clint Dempsey, the two-time winner and reigning holder of the award, is not in the squad. Additionally, two of the nominees for Young Male Athlete of the Year, Terrence Boyd and Danny Williams, are also part of Jurgen Klinsmann’s squad assembled in Krasnodar. Fans can vote for their favorite nominee all week on U.S. Soccer’s Facebook page. The winners will be announced Monday, Nov. 19. The U.S. Soccer Athlete of the Year awards are the oldest and most prestigious awards of their kind, dating back to 1984 for the men and 1985 for the women, while the Young Male and Young Female awards were added in 1998. This is the first year U.S. Soccer will name a Disabled Athlete of the Year.
